Fifth Harmony is important, even if you don’t think they are.
If you haven’t realized, girl bands are hard to come by. But when you think about boy bands, there are plenty of those that come to mind – One Direction, 5SOS, The Vamps. The music industry tends to be treated with unwelcome sexism. Men typically get farther. So when Fifth Harmony began sweeping the nation just like One Direction had, I wasn’t surprised when their fame didn’t quite reach the same level. People just tend to be more attracted to men, despite it being wrong.
Fifth Harmony, to me, can be compared to One Direction. They both started off on The X Factor, and now they’re pretty huge. And One Direction wasn’t always world-dominating too, you have to remember. Fifth Harmony is just a bit over three years old, while One Direction is over five. That’s a pretty big difference.
Even with all that said though, the “Harmonizer” family has definitely been growing.
A big reason is that their single, “Worth It”, has really hit it big on the charts. It was first released in March, and it’s been on the radios ever since. According to Wikipedia, the song “marked the first top fifteen hit by a girl group in the US since “Jai Ho! (You Are My Destiny)” by The Pussycat Dolls in 2009″. That’s a huge deal.
On top of the band reaching such success recently, each of their members (Camila, Normani, Dinah, Ally, and Lauren) are all for girl power, and they’ve been using this media coverage to inspire girls.
Their other songs also express these views, such as “BO$$” and “Brave, Honest, Beautiful”.
This is why Fifth Harmony is important: they’re going to dominate a typically-male industry, and while they’re doing it, they’re going to be empowering females. A lot of girls struggle, and I believe this power can really help some of them. Every single girl is worth it, but not enough see it. Fifth Harmony will shed some light onto them, showing them exactly what they can do – anything they put their minds to.
